The Perfect Day

With a dip in the temperatures, LA has been gorgeous this past weekend. You would think that this weather would provoke outdoor activities. Quite the opposite in my case. Leaving our doors and windows open all weekend has made our apartment a sort of breezy paradise. This photo pretty much describes my day. It's close to four and I haven't left the house. I bought some cool finds at goodwill yesterday and i've been playing dress up all morning.
Also, this morning, i unveiled my first batch of Sosuke's special touch sangria. It's named thus because when making it, our cat decided to dip his curious paw in it. Anyway, i threw on my "Pink Martini" Pandora mix and made homemade chilaquiles to go with our sangria. It was delicious. After brunch and countless glasses of Sangria latter, Morgan and I took a well needed nap. Life is good!

Sosuke's Special Touch Sangria Recipe:

1/2 cup brandy
1 bottle of red wine.
The juice of one orange
1/3 cup of lemon juice
1/3 cup sugar ( can be omitted because it was rather sweet, i think the fruit works enough sweetness into the mix)
1/3 triple sec
1 apple cute into small pieces
1 orange cut into small pieces
a couple maraschino cherries
4 cans of diet ginger ale.

You basically mix everything together except the ginger ale and store overnight in the fridge. In the morning, take out your glasses and ladle the mix into your cup and add as much ginger ale as you want and enjoy!

The Tree of Life

When Morgan and I were at the fair, we spent a good time wandering through the Hall of Distributors. Hidden among the Wonder Knives and the Sham Wows, my eyes were pleasantly surprised when I saw these hand-woven rugs. When speaking with the distributor, he explained that this Navajo bird pattern is referred to as the tree of life. He was selling these two rugs for around 600 dollars each. I thought it was such a steal seeing as how if Anthropologie got their hands on them, they would probably go for around 2,000. I love how the colors in the blue rug and I just imagined how lovely it would look in a white room.

Fun Fair Time

One of the best things to do over Summer is to take advantage of the county fairs up and down California. This weekend, Morgan and I were on our way up North to visit his parents and do a little wine tasting. When we saw the signs for the Ventura County Fair, we had to stop and indulge in the deep fried country culture. We ended up with some chocolate covered bacon, blue cheese fries, and some Dippin' Dots. After almost vomiting on a stomach churning, 5 ticket ride call Magnum, we relaxed on the ferris wheel which gave a picturesque view of the Pacific Ocean. After a hard week of working in LA, it was the perfect start to our relaxing weekend!

John Derian for Target

I can guarantee you that come September 5th, I'll be camped outside my local Target awaiting the featured arrival of the John Derian home collection. There are over 100 pieces in the collection and all of them are under 25 dollars! His style is sort of cabinet of oddities meets whimsical. I have my eye on the tiered cake stand, printed boxes and the serving tray!

down the rabbit hole

My co-worker Ginger and I decided to check out the last of ZARA's summer sale and their incoming fall line on our lunch break. Having only thirty minutes, we set off down Hollywood Blvd., hopelessly dodging the endless throng of tourists. When we arrived, I immediately fell in love with this pink bunny scarf. I couldn't find any photos of it online so here you go! They also had them in red and blue.

2) Cleaning your apt
3) Getting an amazing brunch at either The Mustard Seed or The Alcove accompanied with wither a Mimosa or fresh Ice tea.
4) Hipster watching at The Mustard Seed or The Alcove and seeing how many svelte french bulldogs walk by.
4) Walking to your local farmer's market and indulging in fresh cut flowers and organic berries!!
5) Coming home and taking a nap

Sweet Summer Treats

Morgan and I have been training for our Chicago 1/2 marathon and today we reached 7 miles. I can honestly say that there was nothing more I wanted after tonight's run than these amazing ice cream sandwiches from Jessica over at Such Pretty Things. I want to try making these before the Summer subsides, which in Los Angeles, feel pretty soon. I love the turquoise one with the pink pearly beads. Who wants to come over to partake?

Girly Glamour

While scouring the internet for inspirational images, I was shocked by how quickly I came across these stunning images. Altamoda, a Italian design company, is responsible for these candied colored images. These photos are from their Altamoda Girl collection. I love the floral deer, the monochromatic poufs and the pops of fuschia . I was disheartened when I read that nearest store to me was across the Atlantic Ocean in Paris... just my luck. I should start making a list of interior design stores to visit around the world.

Happy Shark Week

Everyone, including my dad, has been buzzing about the premier of Shark Week on the Discovery channel. Even thought I despise sharks and the film JAWS still makes me nervous when going into any body of water (pool included), Morgan and I spent a good deal of time glued to the t.v. watching slow motion breaching great whites. However, I thought I would pay a little homage to these man-eating predators by showing how sharks have influenced current fashion trends.

A beautiful scarf from Virginia Johnson.

The brilliant collection of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.
An bling shark cocktail ring from Noir!

Strawberry Fun Nails

This weekend, while browsing endlessly in Target with my sister, I came across these cute press on nails from Smackers. They looked so cute and summery I thought it would be fun to try despite the fact that the thumb nail didn't look like it was going to fit my nail bed. The second photo is how mine came out and the others are just some nifty DIY watermelon and strawberry nail designs.
