Morgan and I decided to stay in tonight and indulge in the traditional giving of the candy. We made a quick trip to Party City today and stocked up on Disney pencils, erasers, paddle balls, ring pops and sweedish fish. We've had many kids stop by so far and I just had to make an emergency trip to the grocery store for more loot!

I hope all you little monsters are having a fabulous Halloween. If you stayed in, I hope you either watched or Tivo-ed The Walking Dead on AMC. I'm an avid zombie film enthusiast and have been waiting for this series to come out for quite some time now. Morgan and I are waiting till the trick-or-treaters die down to lower the lights and put it on. These zombie pin up girls should get you in the mood.

Dressing up like tranny Disney characters is what Halloween is all about! You'll always be in style when you go classic Disney, especially when you're a villain with a homemade couture outfit a la Pandora and Cherry Blossom Girl. I've been drooling over these photos all day and my breath still wavers every time I look at the first photo of Cruella de Vile. I'm loving how heinous and arrogant they look; a key acting trait when playing a villain. Is it strange that I never made the friend connection between two of my favorite bloggers until today? I think next year, a Disney photo session is a must. Morgan and I already have plans to dress up like Pinocchio and Gepetto. We're not really sure who'll dress up as who, but someone once told me I'd make a adorable older man.

I left work thinking that the next time I come in, it wil be November. Where did October go? After a enlightening yoga session, I came home wanting to cram as much Halloween spirit into my next few posts as humanly possible.
With the intent of blogging about a pretty ridiculous photo shoot we had at the Avila pumpkin patch a year back, I came across these adorable scarecrow cookies online and had to share them with you guys. They're from Skip to my Lou and are quickly becoming a frontrunner in possible dishes I might bring to a friends potluck in November. I kind of think it's cute how the hair is made from fiber sticks!

I was thrilled when photographer, Elena Kalis, gave me permission to feature her work on my blog! I love her whimsical underwater scapes and how innocent her photos come across. I always smile when I think about the how much fun they must have had trying to get those balloons underwater.

I found this seemingly simple idea in the Halloween edition of Better Homes and Gardens and have been obsessed with laced pumpkins ever since. I took advantage of a Columbus sale at Joanne's Fabrics a couple weeks ago and got 3 yards of black lace for around 5 dollars! The instructions in the magazine were kind of hard to follow and so after thirty minutes of me trying to fold and stitch lace, I nixed the original directions and just got out my glue gun. I think I did a pretty good job though.

How cute is the sound editing around 0:40 when the music matches their pounding?
I first found out about Spruce, an Austin-based reupholstery store, around the same time I found out that Etsy had a television channel. Now, not only can I consume design blogs all day, but I can now watch hands on D.I.Y videos from the artists themselves. I posted this particular video from Spruce because I think it speaks to many thrift store junkies, like myself, who are always on the lookout for vintage pieces of furniture but are too afraid to buy them because of the effort and skill it would take to revamp them. This video inspires me to finish making cushions for my patio bench that I never quite got to finishing
*Please excuse the shoddy formatting of the embedded video. Maybe someday, someone will create a video that will show how to remedy this and I will be inspired to fix it. ;)

I've been meaning to post these photos of Chicago's adorable little bridge houses from our trip last month. On our second night in the windy city, we decided to take a architecture boat tour to better view Chicago's historic high-rises. I have to say it was one of the best tours I've ever been on. Not only was our guide, a local docent at Chicago's Architecture foundation, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, but the tour also provided us with a chance to relax after a long day of sightseeing and presented an opportune moment to snuggle on a very chilly afternoon with our Bailey's hot chocolate in hand.

Though we were pressed for time this past weekend, Morgan and I were fortunate enough to visit Lady Bird Johnson Grove. About an hour South of the Oregon border and scarce signage to it's whereabouts, we finally made it to the footbridge that led us to the main trail head. The redwoods were stoic and amazing, just as expected. There was a stunning mid morning fog that hung lazily throughout the canopy that made the air brisk and delightful. I want to also state that is unimaginable to fully grasp what fresh air smells like and total silence sounds like, until you leave the city. It was as though even the woodland creatures didn't want to stir in fear that they might disrupt the silence. Discovering that what little sound there was echoed, Morgan and I had fun making indistinct sounds that reverberated through the forest.

This weekend, Morgan and I are catching a connecting flight into Eureka, CA for his cousins wedding. There also might be an impromptu trip further north to see the redwoods and Fern Canyon. In preparation, I'm bringing my vintage 40's navy cape to wear while I traipse through the forest. Also, expect many photographs of the town's lovely Victorian style homes like The Pink Lady.

This is one of the many reasons I'm already looking forward to Spring. Nina Ricci's Spring 2011 Ready-to-wear line of iridescent pastels and shocking pinks is eye candy for any woman looking to be flirty and girly. Even the nectarous pink runway curtain, screams sweetness! Also, every time I pick up a magazine or rummage through style.com, I come across model, Lindsey Wixon. I'm growing very fond of her gap teeth and Rachel Zoe jowls.

Lonny magazine just celebrated it's one year anniversary and their October issue has some cute spreads. Above are just some of my favorite decor photos. I also included two items from their gift guide section that I'm melting over: the poppy bow ring from Coach and a beautiful dress from ASOS.

This past weekend, Morgan and I took our annual trip to the Avila Barn to pick out our Halloween pumpkins. A little tip from me to you...get there early. You'll avoid the crowds and the lingering summer heat. If you can't seem to get out of bed before ten o'clock, you can always treat yourself to a cookies and cream ice cream in their candy parlor. Also, as another tip, you must also indulge in their delicious apple cider and strawberry scones!
