Hitched -Palm Springs!

On January 30th, 2011, throngs of glitter clad gals and dapper Dans flocked to the Ace Hotel for this year's Hitched event. For those of us who traveled from the North, the only hitch getting there was the pesky rain on the drive down. However, very much like the uninterrupted immaculate weather at Disneyland, Palm Springs welcomed us with sunshine. When we got there, we had no idea what 35 dollars would get us inside the event. Let me kindly break it down.

1. A Hitched tote bag filled with amazing goodies from all the vendors. (Alcohol, candy, pins, pretty stationary, coupons, magnets, and the best lemon flavored cotton candy I have ever tasted)
2. A non-floating booze cruise that included your choice of free sangria, Sofia Coppola champagne, margaritas, beer that came served in a paper bag (for the classy gentlefolk) and an array of the Ace's mixed signature drinks.
3. Dinner and snacks that included grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, cotton candy, popcorn, corn dog bites, CAKE, mini tamales, spicy corn fritters, etc.
4. An cutesy synchronized swimming performance accompanied with cutesy music like Lilly Allen's cover of "Heart of Glass".
5. A free haircut from Rudy's and a tutorial on bow tying in the Groom's Lounge.
6. A chance to schmooze with celebrity bloggers and artisans.
7. A hands on look at some amazing tablescapes and floral designs.

There was probably more that we missed, but what the heck! Two thumbs up to a great night in the desert.

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 does it again

I'm seriously counting down the days till the Hitched event in Palm Springs this Sunday. I mean, who wouldn't want to surround themselves with insanely crafty women who create immensely rich concepts and designs for super chic weddings. I know that's a mouthful, but it's the only way to accurately describe the candy coated weekend that I'm sure is in store. Now the hard part is picking out an outfit . I could start by wearing something from, one of the many lines that will be represented at this weekends event. specializes in headbands, clips and other adorable accessories. The first three images are from their new collection and it features one of my favorite bloggers, Joy Cho from Oh Joy!

Whether you denounce the 14th of February as Singles Awareness Day or count pastel conversation hearts in your sleep, you simply can't deny cute stationary. I spent a good part of tonight perusing Etsy to see what they had in stock for Valentines day. What I found was an overabundance of hearts letterpress printing.

Weekend Lineup

It wouldn't be the weekend without a bouquet of fresh flowers. On Saturday, after a delicious lunch from our regular sandwich shop Papa's Place, Morgan and I picked up some daises and roses at Jasmin's Garden on Hillhurst in Los Feliz. I put some of the smaller roses my heart shaped vase, a sweet thrift store find I used at last year's Tea Bruncheon. When I couldn't find my larger go-to vase, I pulled out my piggy pitcher, usually reserved for summer sweat teas and lemonade. When I put the little piggy vase on the entry table, I think it made for a cute and festive alternative. That'll do, pig. That'll do.

Frosting Nails

Happy Weekend everyone! Yesterday, I decided to treat myself to a little manicure on my lunch break. I was a little doubtful at first, but I think they came out absolutely sweet! I love the glitter polish with the pink and turquoise confetti. They remind me of little frosted cupcakes.

To get the same look:
1. Essie Nail Polish in Limo-Scene
2. New York Summer Glitter in Angel Dream

Thank You Very Much!

The House With No Chimney from Morgan Swift on Vimeo.

As promised, here was our submission to the Ace Hotel's film challenge. You couldn't believe our shock the next morning when we found out that we had won the competition and received complementary badges to the Palm Springs International Film Festival. We spent the following weekend in Palm Springs watching foreign films and paying visit to some of my favorite thrift shops around the valley!

Things that make me happy!

Here are a few things that make me happy aside from three day weekends!

1. Drinking Earl Grey tea in dainty tea cups in the early mornings.
2. My newly thifted cat umbrella.
3. My Capri Blue candle in "Volcano".
4. Our new Lazybones quilt in pink.
5. A new orchid to celebrate the new year.
6. My new off-pink hair bow that makes any outfit a little bit more girly.

A shipshape cupcake

Yesterday my co-worker and good friend Jamie turned 26. She wasn't in the office on Tuesday so I thought I would surprise her today with red velvet cupcakes! As toppers, I made mint green toothpick flags to place on each little cake. I think they kind of look like little boats now! I had a lot of left over cupcake doilies from my Holly Jolly garlands, so making cupcakes seemed like the way to go. And, as an added bonus, I got to test out my new oven mitt and cooking timer.

The House with no Chimney

Have you ever wondered how Santa gets into the homes without chimneys? Morgan and I offer a slightly whimsical take on what really happens when everyone is all snug in their beds. As part of the Film Fest for the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, Morgan and I created a three minute stop motion. It was kind of convenient as we were hoping to make a holiday stop motion this Holiday season. As a bonus, their prompt, which was to utilize an umbrella and bellbottoms, fit nicely into our script. We found out about the contest on Saturday but couldn't start filming until Tuesday night. The deadline was today at 6 p.m and, as film veterans who have competed in several timed challenges, got our film in at 5:59. The past two days have been extremely hectic as I have been getting over a cold and have been on a fruit and veggie cleanse since Monday. I'll link to our video once we make some finishing touches on it!
