Things I would fill a mansion with...

Here are a couple photos I took while antiquing in Cambria this past weekend. I couldn't tell you the number of times I saw something I wanted to buy and then thought...if I only had a mansion to put it in. How adorable would the rabbit cookie jar be in a whimsy kitchen scape? Or the pink fawn vase on a bedside vanity? I'll post on what I actually walked away with this weekend!

Double the Confetti, Double the Fun

cookie confetti

It's that time of year again. Morgan and I are both March babies and we happen to celebrate our anniversary in March as well. Needless to say, it's a pretty gifty month. Recently, I've been tring to get inspiration on gift wrapping and I came across this cute confetti wrapping idea via Oh Happy Day. Wouldn't this be such a fun D.I.Y project? They look exactly like those little Italian sugar cookies.

Those who don't eat, throw cake.

Acid Girls - Lightworks OFFICIAL VIDEO dir. Steven Ilous from Steven Ilous on Vimeo.

A couple weeks ago, I may or may not have told my friend Felicia I would make her a nautical Lolita hat. I knew I was in way over my head the second I uttered the words. As luck would have it, I stummbled upon a lightweight copper ship at an antique shop in Cambria. Being excited over the prospect of creating a Rococo-inspired hat, I spent a good part of last night doing research on Elisabethan fashion. While googling keywords such as "Marie Antoinette ship hat" and " nautical Lolita fashion", I found this awesome video from Acid Girls. It's sort of my visual anthem for this project. Enjoy!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday everyone! Morgan and I are heading up to the Central Coast for the three day weekend. We are planning to venture a little more north to San Simeon to check out Hearst Castle and the infamous thrift shopping in Cambria. I'm kind of excited for the colder weather this weekend because it actually gives me a reason to wear my Russian-inspired fur cap I scored in Palm Springs a couple weeks ago.

Oscar Picks - The Illusionist

Earlier tonight, I had the privilege of watching The Illusionist with my friend Irma. Despite it's deep melancholy tone, I thought the film was beautiful and was inspired to blog about it. I'm a big fan of Design Sponge's "Living In" blog posts so I decided to create my own version with Oscar films. Stay tuned for more Oscar picks inspired by this years nominations.

Let them eat cake!

In Japanese culture, girls spend Valentine's Day giving chocolate gifts to the boys. A month later on "White Day" (aka Marshmallow Day), the men are suppose to return the favor by giving the women gifts like white chocolate, jewelry and marshmallows. Inspired by this tradition, my friend Yumi created a two-part potluck. The first part took place on Sunday in Pasadena. A group of us girls came together to cook, decorate and lavish the boys in scrumptious delights. Here are a few photos from the event.
In about a month, it will be the boys turn to impress the ladies with their decorating and culinary skills. Morgan and I offered to host White Day at our place in Los Feliz under the condition I don't help with the decorations. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

I HEART you!

A couple weeks ago, my good friend Yumi asked me to help plan a Valentine's Day potluck. In preparation, we hit up multiple thrift stores in the hopes of finding anything that looked like it belonged on the set of Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. Having promised to make some valentine garlands, we stopped by Michael's to stock up on crafts. Originally, I had imagined making a heart garland similar to this and that. Even though I had come home with an arsenal of cutesy ribbon, sequence, and scrap book paper, I didn't have a clue to what I was actually going to make. After procrastinating all week, I finally sat down on Friday night and this is what I churned out. More photos of the party to come!

Pretty in Pink

It's finally the weekend! I can't decide what color pink to paint my nails for my friends Valentine's Day potluck tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Anthropologie's BHLDN sneak peak

All I can say is that I'm glad I haven't gotten married yet... sorry Morgan. My dream wedding just became a little more dreamy now that Anthropologie is set to unveil their new whimsical wedding line, BHLDN, on Valentine's Day. I know now that I'm going to want everything from the bohemian dresses to the personalized cutlery so I figure I should start saving now. Their website's splash screen features this unbearably cute photo montage set to Amiina's "What are you waiting for," a song that I might very well use to walk down my own aisle. I also love the last photo of celebrity bloggers Joy from Oh Joy, Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere and Joanna from Cup of Jo.

Chocolate and Strawberries

If you're like me and can't justify spending fifty dollars on ten chocolate covered strawberries, why not make your own this Valentine's day? It's an economic and more fun way to say "I love you" and it'll sound cool when you say "I made these". All you need is a carton of strawberries and microwavable chocolate dipping sauce. Eh Voila! I made these last Summer to take to a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I didn't have cookie paper at the time so I improvised by stacking them upside down in a couple of my pink ice trays.

I wanna Jam it with you!

Happy Sunday everyone! On Friday, a couple co-workers and I stumbled upon a little caffe called The Farmer's Kitchen. They specialize in bringing Los Angeles urbanites the freshest produce from local farmers. They also teach classes like Canning for Valentines Day and How to make your own doggie treats. When there, I had to pick up a jar of their grape and rosemary preserve and a glass of their amazing jamaica tea. I also purchased a homemade jar topper custom made by the chef's mom!
