Today, I'm just a Dreamer

We recently got a new 35mm f/1.8 Nikon lens and now all I want to do is revamp all my camera accessories. I was searching for a new camera strap and I found these from Tokyo Dreamer and I think I'm in love. They have the cute mantra "Today, I'm just a dreamer dreaming my life away" embossed into them. They're fun and fresh and they're pretty inexpensive at 24 dollars a pop. I can't, however, seem to find a camera bag that doesn't look like a big black boulder. Any suggestions?

Harry Potter Goes Editorial

Do you ever wonder what would happen if Vanity Fair or Vogue did a Harry Potter editorial spread? Oh, the things Grace Coddington could create! In lieu of the film's final premier, I thought it would be fun to create a mood board for the character of Dolores Jane Umbridge. Her diabolical nature would only be enhanced by her lavish taste in clothes and accessories. I imagine her walking around in a pink Marc Jacobs tweed coat with a Hermes scarf tied around her neck. She would also carry a pink Rebecca Minkoff laptop case to keep all her Mininstry of Magic affairs in order. Is anyone else going to a midnight screening of HP and dressing up?

Sassy Sandals

I know this statement appears to be a little late considering sandal season is all year round in Los Angeles, but I couldn't help snap a shot of my favorite pair of sandals right now. Fun sandals always make me want to go to the beach to show them off. As a matter of fact, I would love to be at this restaurant right now dipping my toes in the sand and drinking a mai tai! What are you guys wearing on your feet?

Parasols and Lanterns

Morgan and I spent Saturday morning biking the L.A. aqueduct over by the 5 freeway. It's was almost like an outing to zoo because there were so many species of birds that were nesting in the watery brush. Afterwards, we treated ourselves to a mango and chile paleta (Mexican popsicle) from a street vendor. It was seriously one of the best popsicles I have ever had. I might try to make some for when it gets even hotter.

For lunch, we were craving steamed buns so we ventured over to China Town. One almond milk tea and a bootleg movie later, we found a place that had the buns we were looking for. We also got an order of the sui mai pork dumplings. While strolling the busy streets, I couldn't help but notice the brightly colored parasols and lanterns strung up. They were so pretty I had to snap a few photos of them! How was everyone else's weekend?

Time to Decorate!

Happy Friday everyone! Here are the two decoration boards I made for little Vivian's party. If you follow the same blogs as I do, you've probably seen those cute oversized balloons from Geronimo. How cute would they be as a birthday surprise? I'm also absolutely in love with the kite garlands and the ice cream cone balloons!

A Pink & Green Affair

Yesterday, my cousin Elliza asked me to help coordinate a couple key aspects of her daughter's first birthday party. The color palette is the ever-so-cute combination of pink and green and i'm imagining a really fresh summer soiree. I felt like a mad woman last night bookmarking images I thought we could use as inspiration. I have two more boards coming for decoration so stay tuned!

For an upcoming Harry Potter inspired post, I was searching "cat plates" on Etsy and came across these plates from Parul Arora. Her Etsy site, Justnoey, is chock full of cutesy hand drawn ceramics. These two plates happen to encompass two of my favorite things: tea and cake. They also happen to be me and my sisters initials!

Plates on Wall

Now this is my kind of wallpaper! How adorable would this be in your dinning room or kitchen? I would feel so inclined to put on my granny hipster glasses and apron and bake an apple pie if I walked into my kitchen and saw this every morning. The first is a print from Le Souk, a whimsy brand that specializes in modern home goods and the second is non-other than Anthropologie.

Hello Summer

This post isn't nearly as exciting as some of the others but I really wanted to showcase my new cream-colored sheer blouse from the Gap. Plus, it's the first day of Summer so sheer shirts are where it's at! I desperately want to pair it with one of those long, breezy accordion skirts from American Apparel.

Hurray for Today!

Today marks a pretty amazing milestone in my financial history! I managed to finally pay off my credit card! I can't tell you how amazing it was seeing my online statement at a zero balance when I woke up this morning. This, of course, was made possible by a very generous work bonus. I even have a little extra left over. I feel like recreating this beautiful table scape and celebrating with a glass of champagne.

Happy Father's Day

In honor of father's day, I thought I would share this vintage photo of my dad from the 70's. There are still so many questions I have about this photo like: Where was it taken? How old were you? What were you doing in your life at this time? And who taught you how to pose like that? He looks so darn cool rocking his Adidas short shorts and his aviators. I'm thinking of submitting it to the Dads are the Original Hipsters website.

Bright Satchels

<span class=

Aren't these tweedy satchels beautiful? They're from Breagha, an online company that has a knack for woolen wonders. I kind of want to buy a Macbook Air just to tote it around in one of these babies.

The Aftermath

Here's a few snapshots from our yard sale last weekend. Morgan and I were up at 5 a.m putting out the last of our signs, laying our wares out, and making blueberry and chocholate chip muffins. We ended up having quite the turn out. Among all of us, i'm guessing our yard sale made close to 500 dollars! A good piece of junk change considering that we were planning to donate the stuff to goodwill.

The Salon

During our yard sale, we were lucky enough to sell our old chaise lounge. For the past year, it's been tucked under the window facing the street. Sosuke had basically made it his personal jungle gym. Now that's it's gone, here is a glimpse of what has replaced it. The chair on the right is thrifted and the one on the left is from Pier 1. I'm hoping that he doesn't start using the rug or the chairs as his new scratching post. Does anyone with a cat have any suggestions on how to prevent this? I don't want to have to pull out this card...

Do you ever have those days at work where you'd just rather be somewhere else? Right now, i'm kind of wishing I was riding one of these bright gonolas on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Where would you rather be?

Agua Fresca Time

<span class=

I made my first batch of Jamaica agua fresca this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast and easy it was to make. So easy in fact, I think the hardest part was finding a grocer that sold the dried jamaica flowers. Morgan ended up finding them at the Jons on Sunset and Vermont. I used this recipe and the sweet and tart nature of the drink made it perfect for Summer. The best part is when the flowers expand in the boiling water and, as my co-worker Ginger said, "look like tiny octopuses."

A Watercolor World

I lieu of the Summer Social, I decided to make some last minute business cards. I drew inspiration from Oh Happy Day and they were actually really easy to make. The key is to use a lot of water so you get that light ombre effect.

The Week's End

So glad it's Friday! Time to celebrate by making jamaica aqua fresca and watermelon garlands for tomorrows yard sale!

I Spy- Summer Treats

One of my favorite things to do in the Summer is walk around Los Feliz in the late afternoon and delight in some refreshing frozen yogurt. Why is it that you can always sense Summer's imminence by how busy your local fro-yo place is on a Wednesday night? Morgan goes for the classic vanilla with sprinkles and I tend to gravitate t0wards the sorbets with lychee and mochi on top. I also love going to Tropicalia for their killer happy hour. They have amazing black bean soup and dollar empanadas. Their large 6$ sangrias are a Summer staple as well.

Another Summer must for me is going to the beach and eating fresh seafood. As a kid, my mom would always take us to the Redondo Beach pier to eat fresh fish and crab. We would eat at newspaper lined tables and eat with our hands!

Biscuit Anyone?

While in New York, I was told I had to swing over to Momofuku's Milk Bar. Don't let their surprising small menu fool you, everything is amazing! We snacked on birthday cake truffles, cereal milk soft serve and thier infamous cookies. I had the composte cookie and seeing how it was the best cookie I had ever had, last weekend I decided to try to make my own. I followed this recipe and instead of potato chips or pretzels, I added peanut butter and chocolate Bugles. I also added two tbls of coffee grounds. The first portion of the recipe takes the longest because you have to mix the butter and sugar together until the sugar dissolves which takes about 10 minutes. I had to give some of the cookies to my neighbor because I found myself eating 2-3 cookies like it was nothing.

New Facelift

I thought I would share some of the top runners for my new blog header. The first two photos are from the booth at Hitched and the second is a garland I made for a friends Valentine's Day potluck.

I will never love you more than...

If you haven't heard, I'm kind of in love with Kate Spade. The branding for this company is utterly insane. There are only a handful of brands that I feel are in sync with my aesthetic style and Kate Spade is one of them. How adorable is this video featuring french songstress Soko. If I wrote this song, my I true loves would be:

1. Blogging

2. My tea cup collection

3. Summer Dresses

4. The smell of Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen

5. Water rides

6. How Amelie makes me feel

7. Scalding hot showers

8. Amateur vanity photo shoots

9. This dance sequence

10. Wanderlust

What would be on your list?

Oh Happy Day Indeed!

If you don't have Oh Happy Day! on your Google Reader by now, you're missing out on the exquisite. Jordan Ferney pens this inspirational blog and offers insight into crafting, food, travel, letter press, party planning, and just about everything in between. Today, she posted an insane giveaway to Paris that i'm dying to win! I'm hoping this will be me in a couple months. Keep your fingers crossed!

Life Under the Sea

Morgan and I ventured down South this weekend for a little needed sunshine! On Saturday, we drove down to Irvine for our friend's birthday BBQ/tournament. After being sorted onto different colored teams, we competed in several games like ultimate frisbee, balloon toss, freeze tag, and charades.

The next day, we went to Disneyland to ride the highly anticipated Little Mermaid ride that just opened up in California Adventure. I couldn't help feeling giddy knowing that my favorite Disney movie growing up had FINALLY been transformed into a ride! I loved shell inlay in the concrete, the cast members outfits, and the fact that they called us "little sailors." One Mickey ice cream, a slight sunburn and two hours later, we finally boarded. You can veiw the entire ride here. I was blown away by the highly developed animatronics (especially Ursula). However, I think I have been forever spoiled by the Finding Nemo ride in Orlando. There, you board a similar clam shell, follow Nemo on his adventure, and then ride through an actual aquarium! After the ride, you can walk around the aquarium and visit the different tanks containing sharks, dolphins and manatees. We are planning on re-newing our passes in a couple months so I'm sure we'll be riding it again and again.

I Want Candy

Happy Friday everyone! A few of you have asked me to do a post about the dress I was wearing in this post. It's pretty much the epitome of Spring and Summer; I call it my Palm Springs dress. I bought it on my last trip to N.Y at Vice Versa, a vintage shop that is kind of the equivalent to the American Vintage stores in and around Los Angeles. Lately, at thrift stores like these, I find myself being drawn to the bright, fruit-colored dresses. What are some of your favorite Summer outfits?

jen b.

Even though this is a short week, I feel as though it's been excruciatingly long. I figured I would pass the time by researching my new girl crush, Jen Brill. I'm in love her signature pouty, red lips and her flawless street style. This Chinese-Australian hails from New York's Upper East Side and is a front row staple at runway shows around the world. She's also a Chanel Ambassador and has been quoted in saying that she has "sold her soul to Karl Lagerfeld." Sounds like my kind of woman!

Yard Sale!

Morgan and I are hosting The House on Finley and Friends Yard Sale in two weeks. We would love to have all of you come out, listen to some Motown, and drink different kinds of aguas frescas with us!
