Traveling Light

packing light

As many of you know, I’m planning a trip to the Philippines to visit my sister while she's out there on her Fullbright scholarship. She’s been to the Philippines on several different occasions and advised that I pack extremely light. I’ll be there for two weeks and I’m already stressing about what to bring and what not to bring. I want to get a new travel backpack, cross trainers, a more durable (and water resistant) watch, and possibly a more portable digital camera that still shoots like an SLR. I’m leaving in a little over 4 months but I want to start thinking about these things now so I don’t end up maxing out my credit card buying all my necessities the very last minute. Any seasoned travelers out there have any packing pointers?

  1. are you bringing Morgan with you?

  2. I'd buy one of those vacuum-seal bags (if your sister has a vacuum out there) so you can pack "light." I tend to overpack because I never know what I want to wear but this solves the problem (but not the weight). If you don't want to do the vacuum bags, roll your clothing- takes up less space and minimizes wrinkles. You don't really need a watch since you're on vacation but if you're going to be taking lots of buses/flights then it may be handy. Make a copy of your passport and scan/email it to yourself/family just in case. Oh, and repack 3 times so you constantly take out items and have room in your bag for souvenirs!

  3. Yes! Thanks Mai-ly! So freaking excited.
